The blurb on the back says "There are surprises in this book." No kidding. There are surprises on every page.
This is the definitive 'everything you wanted to know about Muslims
but were too afraid to ask' book. And, actually, you'd do well to be
afraid because some of the answers to the faqs are a bit scary. And surprising. And occasionally not an answer at all. It's
complicated. Take this answer about whether or not pictures are
forbidden by Islam for example. "Given the choice of sticking an
icepick up your nose, or reconciling the points of view, go for the
icepick. It's all over in a second or two that way".
In a lot of ways this is really a very funny book on a very
serious subject and the tone, throughout, is conversational rather than
conspiratorial. The Question that I most Frequently Asked myself while reading
Islam F.A.Q was "Where is the faqing index?" This would be a great
reference book for schools etc but...no index. Where's the stuff on
Fatwa? Apostasy? Taliban? Jihad? It's all in there, in detail, but unless you dog
ear the pages you'll be trawling back and forth
trying to find what you want. As I am a school teacher it is possible that I have not taken on board that this is a book for reading, not a dictionary. In fact, it is a new genre perhaps - a non-fiction book to be read and enjoyed for its style and humour as well as its facts. I guess the best way to read it is from
the beginning. All the way through. Buy it but be prepared for
surprises. (Posted on Amazon)
WOW !
There are surprises in this book ...... and some shocks too.
Easy to read and entertaining in spite of being serious.
I like this guy`s style of writing ....... I was hooked ..... couldn`t put it down.
Even if you have no interest in religion generally you need to know how this one affects our freedom and our customs. (posted on Powell's books)
Written in an engaging conversational style, this book is not heavy reading nor is it the usual dry FAQ type of book. McCrudden, a criminal lawyer, is noted for his ascerbic wit and his entertaining turn of phrase which he attributes to his Irish background. He presents the facts but leaves the reader to draw his own conclusions. This is a book for every person on earth. We can ignore Islam if we dare but it will not ignore us. (posted on bookfinder4u)
